About

The Software Analysis Group is known for providing thoughtful, rigorous, and credible analytical work. Our clients include global, national, and regional law firms as well as Fortune 500/Global 2000 corporations, government agencies, private equity firms, and small and mid-sized companies.

We combine knowledge, training, and experience in software and e-commerce technologies with a specific focus on and expertise in software development and implementations, intellectual property, and valuation.

We tailor our services to meet the unique needs of each client. Understanding and recognizing the constraints under which our clients work, we are known for our flexibility, responsiveness, and cost-effective analysis.

We have been retained in several high-stakes litigation matters and numerous management consulting engagements over the past fifteen years.

Founder

The company’s founder, Steven R. Kursh, Ph.D., CSDP, CLP has extensive experience in the computer software industry, telecommunications, and the Internet. He was the founder of a software company that was acquired by McGraw-Hill and is the author of academic and practitioner articles related to the software industry, e-commerce, and finance. Dr. Kursh is the author of a book published by Financial Times Prentice-Hall, and he was recently awarded a patent.

Dr. Kursh is an Executive Professor at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. As a full-time member of the faculty, he is responsible for teaching courses in the College of Business and in the College of Engineering. He has also developed and taught courses at Harvard University, the University of Pennsylvania, and in continuing professional education programs. He has earned several teaching awards, been a mentor capitalist, and received research funding from several foundations and government agencies.

Dr. Kursh as been admitted as an expert before arbitration panels, state courts, and in the federal courts (Southern District of New York, Eastern District of New York, Eastern District of Pennsylvania,  Massachusetts District, and Eastern District of Texas) in matters relating to intellectual property (copyrights, trade secrets, trademarks, and patents); the computer software industry, including development and implementation of software products, licensing, marketing, management, contract compliance, and valuation; and the Internet.

Professor Kursh was named a Fulbright Scholar in 2005. He received his doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania and his AB from Boston College, Magna Cum Laude, Scholar of the College. He is certified by the IEEE Computer Society as a Computer Software Development Professional (CSDP), having documented a minimum of 9,000 hours of professional work in software development and passed a rigorous examination covering the Software Engineering Body of Knowledge. For his recent recertification as a CSDP, he completed additional course study in software technologies and other activities. He also has earned the Certified Licensing Professional (CLP) designation from the Licensing Executives Society (LES).

Dr. Kursh is a registered member of the IBM Academic Initiative program and a member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Licensing Executives Society (LES).

Publications

Dr. Kursh focuses his research primarily on topics related to computer software, telecommunications, the Internet and linkages between technology and business management. He has authored articles that have been published in academic and practitioner journals. He also serves as a reviewer for several publications and is an active participant at academic and professional society meetings.
